Matthew Borczon

Erie, PA Instructor

Matthew Borczon has been studying Indonesian gung fu for 48 years, starting in 1975 under Robert Page, a student of Tom Pepperman. He then studied with A. John Kinkead a student of Richard Lopez in a style Kinkead called Shaolin Kuntao. It was his take on the Liu Seong System with personal modifications. Over the last 48 years Borczon has attained black belt level or better in Shaolin under Master James Halladay and Aiki Jitsu under Grandmaster Dr. Donald Roll. Outside of martial arts Matt
was a successful amateur boxer who won the Pittsburgh golden gloves in 1996, 97, and 98 boxing out of the Lower Eastside gym in Erie pa. He has been studying Poekoelan under Master William Dobich these last few years and he was promoted to 5 th level on September 10 th 2023. He hopes to continue his training in this system for the rest of his life. Matt has been a successful tournament competitor since
the 1980’s winning over three hundred trophies as well as regional and national titles. He continues to compete to this day. He is a practical nurse in Erie Pa, and is a retired US Navy Corpsman. He has 4 children and has been married to his wife Dana for almost 27 years.

Len Zurko

Erie, PA Instructor

Len Zurko began his Poekoelan training in 1994 under Bill Dobich and was promoted to
sixth level Pendekar in May of 2006 and seventh level Goeroe Bantoe in 2024. He has
been a Poekoelan student for 29 years. He also studied the Reeder’s system of Liu
Seong Royal Gung Fu in 2003 Under Grandmaster Arthur Sykes. He received his
orange sash in 2023 from Master Matt Borczon. He is a sixth level Black belt Under
Master Chris (Christos) Pappas in the Headhunter Society since 1999. A modern
combat art combining Mauy Thai, traditional Shito Ryo karate, and American Sport
karate. Len was a successful amateur boxer under Earl Charity out of Youngstown Ohio
Where he trained with three world Champions. He went as far as the quarter finals in
the National Golden Gloves in Cleveland Ohio in 2001. Along the way Len has been a
successful tournament competitor winning the 2003 Great Lakes Kung Fu Nationals, as
a heavyweight in the continuous contact division. When not training kung fu, Len enjoys
watching baseball and Football on TV, as well as reading
about history.
